A Transformative Session on “Distractions in Student Life”

On 28th June 2025 , at Anandathirtha Vidyalaya, an impactful and thought-provoking session was conducted for students of Grades 8 to 10 on one of the most relevant topics of our time — “Distractions in Student Life,” a growing issue that affects students across the globe.

The programme began on a spiritual note with a soulful bhajan by our students, setting a serene and reflective tone for the day.

We were deeply honoured to welcome our Chief Guest, Sri Sri Sri Swami Veereshananda Saraswathi , President of Ramakrishna Vivekananda Ashram, Tumkur, who has addressed more than 15 lakh students over the last 36 years, leaving a lasting impact through his teachings.

The session was gracefully conducted by Mrs Suma Kiran, who was the host for the day.

Mr Shripad Acharya introduced the esteemed guest, highlighting his inspiring life journey and spiritual contributions.

A formal and heartfelt welcome was delivered by Mr Madhusudan Bhat from the Sanskrit Department.

In his powerful and engaging address, Sri Sri Sri Swami Veereshananda Saraswathi connected deeply with students through real-life stories and profound quotes from great scientists and philosophers, emphasising the importance of focus, discipline, and a balanced lifestyle.

He encouraged students to:

. Dedicate fixed hours each day for focused study

* Include physical exercise and meditation in their daily routine

* Avoid shortcuts, bad company, and digital distractions

* Always respect parents, teachers, and elders

* Remember that education is their tapasya (dedicated spiritual effort)

He used a simple scientific example — how a lens focuses sunlight to ignite paper — as an analogy to explain how focused attention can lead to extraordinary results.

He defined complete education as a blend of:

🔹 25% by listening in class

🔹 25% through self-reflection

🔹 25% via discussions with peers

🔹 25% from real-life experience

He reinforced the idea that regularity and punctuality eliminate exam fear, and shared the inspiring story of tennis legend Thomas Muster to highlight the role of confidence, perseverance, and a strong mindset in overcoming life's challenges.

One of his most impactful quotes was:

“Sow a seed of thought and reap an action; sow a seed of action and reap a habit; sow a seed of habit and reap a character; sow a seed of character and reap a destiny.”

He reminded students that character plays a vital role in shaping one's future.

In a creative twist, he used the word "notable" and playfully showed how it can also be read as "no table", "not able", or "notable", forming a meaningful sentence to teach students the importance of perspective.

The students were fully attentive throughout, without the slightest sign of boredom.

The session concluded with an interactive Q&A segment, where students eagerly asked questions about their goals, confusion, and career direction — all of which were addressed thoughtfully and insightfully by the speaker.

The event was graced by our Principal, Dr Geetha Shashidhar, and attended by our dedicated high school faculty.

The session concluded with a heartfelt Vote of Thanks delivered by Ms Shanti Hiremani, marking the end of a truly enriching and inspiring experience.
