Samskruthotsavam – World Sanskrit Day Celebration

at Anandathirtha Vidyalaya – 9th August 2025

World Sanskrit Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm at Anandathirtha Vidyalaya on 9th August 2025. Observing this day is important as it helps preserve and promote the rich heritage of Sanskrit, which is proudly taught as the third language at the school.

The program was anchored very well by Ms. Rashi, who managed the proceedings smoothly, while Master Aaryan welcomed the school principal, Dr. Geetha Shashidhar, and the Academic Coordinator, Mrs. Vijetha, onto the stage. Sanskrit students presented beautiful handmade greetings to the dignitaries.

The event commenced traditionally with Master Pranav blowing the conch, followed by the Principal lighting the diya, marking the auspicious start.

Primary school children sang a melodious Sanskrit prayer, and the higher-grade students sang beautifully and performed an elegant dance to a Sanskrit song.

Several charts displaying Sanskrit shlokas, names of vegetables, and everyday objects were exhibited, showcasing the language’s continuing relevance in daily life.

The Veda Ghosha was chanted by high school boys, adding a solemn spiritual dimension. Grade 10 students—Master Srivatsa, Master Purshottama, and Master Naman Bhat—delivered impressive Sanskrit speeches that captivated the audience.

One speech highlighted the elegance of Sanskrit and the significance of World Sanskrit Day, while another demonstrated how a long shloka can be condensed into a sentence and how a simple sentence can be expanded, with clear examples.

The speeches also reflected thoughtfully on how a person’s character can be understood from their name. Students further illustrated how the addition or omission of a single letter can completely change a Sanskrit word’s meaning.

The program paid tribute to great Sanskrit poets such as Kalidasa, Vyasa, Bhasa, Dandi, and Bharavi, whose works continue to inspire. Several revered shlokas were recited, noting from the Purāṇas that correctly reciting even one shloka daily can lead to salvation.

A skit performed by high school students stressed the importance of following daily routines and warned against procrastination.

The Sanskrit Department teachers, who were instrumental in organising the event, included HOD Mr. Madhusoodan Bhat, Mr. Keshava Moorthy, Ms. Kavitha, Ms. Sulatha, Ms. Chaitra,  Mr. Sankarshana, and Mr. Ananta Mahuli.

Their dedicated efforts were rightly applauded. The Vote of Thanks was gracefully delivered by Master Srinidhi Adiga, bringing the memorable celebration to a warm and heartfelt close.

The event successfully highlighted the timeless beauty and significance of Sanskrit, inspiring students and teachers alike to continue cherishing and promoting this ancient language..
